The challenge of managing your business through turbulent times is the subject of a major business seminar being held in Paisley this week (Thursday 28th April 2011.)

Leading financial experts from Clydesdale Bank and National Australia Bank will be providing their views on a range of issues confronting businesses against the backdrop of the current difficult economic climate.

Clydesdale Bank’s Andrew MacLean will be looking at Business Planning & Decision Making in Complex Environments. As managing partner of the Bank’s Financial Solutions Centres (FSCs) in Paisley and Bearsden, Andrew has 30 years’ experience across a range of roles in the financial services industry and has spent a large part of his career advising SMEs and corporate businesses on raising finance and debt structuring.

Andrew will be joined by Nick Parsons, Head of Research, UK & Europe and Global Head of FX Strategy for National Australia Bank which owns both Clydesdale Bank and Yorkshire Bank in the UK.

Nick has over 25 years’ experience in foreign exchange and global money markets and is a regular contributor to CNBC, BBC, Sky and Bloomberg News. He is regularly quoted by major newspapers, news agencies and the financial press around the world.

Amongst the topics under discussion will be:
• How do you prepare your business for sudden shocks and unplanned events?
• How should businesses plan for the future in a constantly changing environment?
• What is the future for the Euro?
• In today’s interconnected global economy should businesses be concerned about rising demand for commodities in emerging markets?

Andrew MacLean commented: “The current business environment presents a number of challenges particularly for companies in the SME sector, not least in tackling growing amounts of regulation.

“Keeping up to date with increasing levels of information and red tape and assessing how these might impact on your company can be a major task particularly for the smaller operator when their primary focus is on actually running their business.

“The aim of the seminar is to provide some guidance and advice for firms on how best to tackle these issues and also to offer an overview of the Scottish, UK and global economies.

“In addition, the event provides a great opportunity to network with other local business professionals, and to share ideas and experiences.”
