Anti-Phonebook Petition

I've always felt that the phonebook was a waste of money and paper. Even the Yellow Pages hits the recycle bin soon after it hits the doorstep

The people from 192.com have started a petition saying that the Phonebook should be opt-in.

The petition seems to be gathering pace but i'd love to hear your thoughts on where the Phonebook is actually of any use to you.

Mixed feelings about this one... 192.com obviously have a commercial interest in all this and for that reason I'm not in favour of replacing something that's free to the consumer with something that needs paid for...

That said though, the 'phone book and Yellow Pages ARE such a waste, but the latter in particular needs to be replaced by at least an up-to-date emergency services directory (gas, electricity council etc) and a free directory enquiries service...
