Default Halloween Costume Memories

Mcvicar Marketing put a comment on another post about her 'in the news' halloween costume and it reminded me of a costume I was once made to wear. So, since it's October how about sharing your costume stories from when you were kids and your Mum's still made them...

Here's mine for starters:

When I was eight my Mother dressed me as a scarecrow. It was a fantastic costume and all in one suit with patchwork and a hat. The bad bit was the straw...my Mum (in all her wisdom) attached straw to my arms and legs using carpet tape (you know, the really tough hard duty stuff?). Wearing the costume was fine, taking it off was another story. I sat on the ground screaming with every rough, terrifying rip while my Dad and his friend winced with every scream. It was agony, at the end I had red-raw legs and I was balling my eyes out.

I won a pound for my costume though. Result.

Default Re: Halloween Costume Memories

I guess I kinda grew out of Haloween when I was about 10 ....But the best ever costume I and my Brother/Sisters had were leftovers from a Chinese wedding we had attended as Pages and Bridesmaids respectively....

My two younger brothers had red traditional Chinese shirts in silk ...While the girls had little Yellow Choengsams again in Silk... All beautifully hand made for them... Whilst, as the eldest I had been bought a mandarin-collared suit in grey with a white silk Mandarin shirt to go under it....

SO... the boys pick up some broom handles done some white 'sannies' from Woolworths and are obviously a couple of Kung-Fu fighters (this WAS the 70's), My sisters stick some plastic cups to a tray, and become Japanese Tea-Ladies... And I borrow my Sister's stuffed-toy white-fluffy cat draw a bit of a scar around my eye and am of course Bloefeld from the James Bond film...

The girls made the most money as even at that age they could do a mean a'capella rendition of "Sisters" (the old Andrews Sisters song)....
