Never used Kaspersky, but wouldn't hesitate to recommend AVG

See, I would normally jump up and defend AVG. It's good, it works, its cheap... only, the past month or so I've had a few clients with viruses on their system and they were using AVG at the time.

Perhaps it's no longer up to the job. For networked environments, Kaspersky wins with the management interface.

My daughter recently had a problem with "Vista security centre" (virus?) which her up to date anti-virus software (paid for version of AVG) couldn't locate or remove.

Kaspersky. Database updates are released every few hours and a 3 user license should set you back around 20 bucks if you buy online. Touch wood, but we havent had any cause for concern in the 3 years since I switched packages though it does throw up the odd false alarm.

I use AVG in two machines I have at present and have ever had a problem although I will admit I also use a few other programs sporadically if needed.

I know this is just between Kaspersky and AVG but I think you should also consider NOD32 if it's for a corporate environment. Many of the businesses I work with use this and touch wood we've never encountered any problems.

Hi There

Having any AV software is only half the story.

And it really depends on how much attention the user pays to their AV program. Sad to say that AV programs are NOT "set it and forget it" and do require regular maintenance.

Malware is more of a threat now than viruses and now comes in very complex forms which a lot of AV programs cannot "see" or get disabled by it.

I always compliment any system with Malware Bytes Anti-Malware (MBAM) realtime version (I can do discounts on lifetime licenses - shamless plug!)

This program - MBAM, will stop and or remove most rogue AV programs and modern malware / spyware / trojans etc without any trouble.

If anyone needs help on its use etc then just ask.

Regards

Neither! Nod32 kicks both their ass and it doesn't grind your machine to a halt if it's doing a scan!

NOD32 is definitely the one, beats the rest hands down. As for Malwarebytes, also well worth it - would have helped Alan's daughter's 'Vista Security Centre' problem, which is 'scareware' distributing a Trojan, quite nasty.

By the way, in case anybody is not aware there are quite a few malicious emails doing the rounds purporting to be from UPS, DHL and the like. DO NOT OPEN the attachment - it installs a very nasty and difficult to remove little critter.
