Default I've gone to Google...

I finally bit the bullet and moved all my MWS email addresses over to Gmail!

The most annoyingly bit was the slow process of transferring all my existing email messages (about 18 months worth) across from Outlook to Gmail using an IMAP connection!

Good thing is it's done now, and all configured for use...

Should have done this ages ago!

I agree! I've run home mail servers, used third party web hosting companies etc for a number of years. Previously I used a web host for my personal domain, and archived old mails to an @gmail.com account, and did similar for my work account. About 6 months or so ago, I migrated my personal domain over to gmail for mail, and then did the same for work, and I've been delighted to date.

My only problem is I didn't do the full migration that you did, so I currently have 3 google accounts to search if I'm looking for something in particular - must get around to making a much clearer personal/ work split on them!

What would you do if Google decided to switch it off?

Like thats going to happen! At the moment new messages are still being left on the server until I am 100% sure I am sticking with it, and my old mails are backed up in a .pst - I can still fully recover everything into Outlook if I want.

I like to think I am fairly safe!

I've done this on two client accounts and one of my own domains. It's certainly robust enough. I have my main domain email on exchange and am considering going over to Google. Does it push as well as exchange?

I'd probably go back to a normal webhost (but demand a *lot* more disk space!)

"push" as in like Blackberry or a different "push"?
I use IMAP 99% of the time, so I only get mail when I connect - every couple of minutes on desktop/ laptop and whenever I particularly need it (sometimes as little as once a month!) on my phone

Oops! Has a couple of teething problems thanks to some existing forwarding settings I had in there a couple of months back! It was deleting every email it received as it forwarded to one of the emails it is now supposed to receive!!

All very confusing, and ultimately I am surprised the world didn't implode as a consequence!

Fixed it now and normal email business has resumed...

...thought I better post this before Stu took the mick!
