Stuart is very kindly helping me to get off to a great start with a new look for my website. It's still under development but please feel free to let me know any comments, particularly on the wording i.e. what I should say to really sell me and my services.
Good news that Stu's on the case with the website. FWIW I'd lose the clipart/stock photos and go for a more personal/custom look. Get some good photos taken of yourself and your team working away. I think that will better build up trust and confidence in potential clients; the fact that there's a REAL, serious person behind the service and not just a random ready-salted 'clipart babe' [sic] will carry more weight..

As for Scotland; I think there's HUGE potential for this sort of service. Especially as our geography lends itself so well to home based businesses that might still need a 'corporate' presence.

Hi Clare,

I specialise in transcription and also do some typing, particularly CVs so I'm in a VERY similar field to you. I'm from South Africa and I did find that I had to do some educating of people, not so much with the virtual services thing but with the technology they were using.

I would certainly think that Scotland is more than ready for virtual services. The thing to do is to make sure you are being seen. Network everywhere you go - if you have kids, network at their schools, pin up a notice at your local library, and sell your services to people you happen to speak to.

An effective website is an absolute must - this means getting it seen. Once you've redeveloped it, list it in non reciprocal link business directories, go for online classifieds - Gumtree is very very effective here and I'm sure it operates there too. Google Gumtree Glasgow?

I'm no expert on websites, but I found it clean, to the point and professional looking. I think it is very good. Better go and tidy mine up now!

Well done!
