Default Tax Accountant - small businesses

Hi - just joined.
Tax Accountant (ex Inland Revenue - about 30 years ago!) based in the Scottish Borders.
I specialise in actors, film and TV technical staff, musicians, writers and other creative types and well as mom & pop businesses and small sole traders.
Worked in several Chartered Accountant offices in Edinburgh for over 20 years and found that they were no longer interested in dealing with small businesses as they felt it wasn't worth their while.
Their loss.............................................. ...
Started the business about 7 years ago part-time and moved to full time 2 years ago when the business could fully support me.
Don't advertise - growth is all through referrals and growing extremely well!
Have clients all over the country due to the wonders of E mail and Royal Mail (less wonderful!).
May be looking for local book-keepers/support in the near future so thought I'd look here first.

Welcome to SBF, bluebell2.

I'm sure you'll enjoy it here and will no doubt be inundated with questions from those of us who are still using Barry's Excel spreadsheet as their accounts package.

And very good it is too, Barry!

Just as well you put that last sentence in Alison. I just gave my accountant my books up until April and he asked if I've got everything in "Barry's Spreadsheet". It's becoming famous in the Howe.

Who would have thought my little spreadsheet would be gaining fame. Just make sure that if you pass it on that my email address stays on it, I might even bring in a license fee next year

Are you sure you're not an Aberdonian, Barry?
