Default Rough costs for a bookkeeper?

Hi everyone, We've been doing our own accounts sicne we started but recently are finding it hard to find the time and are thinking we need to hire a bookkeeper to sort it all out for us and check over whats been done so far. We're happy doing our own VAT return but its everything else we'll need a hand with. Does anyone have a rough idea of the kind of costs we'd be looking at? Can you get a set cost per year or is it by the hour etc etc?

Thanks in advance!

Hi Lynne,

If it's for an ongoing period it's unlikely you'll get a fixed fee, probably an hourly fee would be more realistic. Likely costs are £10-£15 per hour I would think. It might be better for you to have a think about why you need one because it may be possible to simplify things by using software etc. There are a few very good web based accounting system that may fit what you need. It could then just be a case of getting someone to look over things every few months (maybe every vat quarter).

What systems do you have in place just now and what aspects are you finding it hard to deal with?

Thanks Barry, we went to see someone today who gave us a fixed price and is really helpful. It's a real weight off our mind as we just didn't have time for all that and lets us concentrate on making websites instead!

Hi Lynne,

Great to hear you got something sorted I totally agree it's better to stick to the things you are best and most productive at. I'm sure it will work well

kashflow.co.uk That for me saves a tonne of money in bookkeeping. If you are doing less than a few thousand transactions per year then give it a ago. All invoices, quotes and transactions we create go through kashflow and the accountant pulls the data at the end of the year to file the accounts.
