Default So, who wants to be a millionaire...

Sorry, this isn't a thread with a quick fix answer...just one about how we think about money and our businesses.

I was thinking...and doing a lot of reading on really wealthy business people and the one thing that came accross to me time and time again with the fact that wealth people think differently about money than the rest of us mere mortals.

Many people think of money as a short-term problem: “If I could only make more money, I’d be okay!” “If I could get a pay rise, all my problems would be solved!” “If I could win the lottery, I would be set for life!”

Hopefully the business coaches will contribute to this thread)

Is it important to act wealthy or influencial (I am not talking about telling lies or being false here) to believe in yourself to create a big business or loads of money. to create the mindset

In believing that you are wealthy do you instantly act in your business the same way?

Are our mindsets keeping us back from releasing our true potentials in our businesses?

What you think?

I think you are correct Gordon. Very successfull people do have a certain mindset. Confidence breeds success, and vice versa. I suppose that most people view obstacles as insurmountable, rather than just challenges to be overcome.

T. Harv Eker, author of Secrets of the Millionaire Mind: Mastering the Inner Game of Wealth, believes wealthy people inherently think differently about money. We each have a unique “financial blueprint,” which is created over a lifetime of our exposure to money messages. Eker lists 17 ways that wealthy people behave and think about money:

1. Wealthy people believe, “I create my life.” Poor people believe, “Life happens to me.”
2. Wealthy people play the money game to win. Poor people play the money game to not lose.
3. Wealthy people are committed to being rich. Poor people want to be rich.
4. Wealthy people think big. Poor people think small.
5. Wealthy people focus on opportunities. Poor people focus on obstacles.
6. Wealthy people admire other rich and successful people. Poor people resent rich and successful people.
7. Wealthy people associate with positive, successful people. Poor people associate with negative or unsuccessful people.
8. Wealthy people are willing to promote themselves and their value. Poor people think negatively about selling and promotion.
9. Wealthy people are bigger than their problems. Poor people are smaller than their problems.
10. Wealthy people are excellent receivers. Poor people are poor receivers.
11. Wealthy people choose to get paid based on results. Poor people choose to get paid based on time.
12. Wealthy people think “both”. Poor people think “either/or”.
13. Wealthy people focus on their net worth. Poor people focus on their working income.
14. Wealthy people manage their money well. Poor people mismanage their money well.
15. Wealthy people have their money work hard for them. Poor people work hard for their money.
16. Wealthy people act in spite of fear. Poor people let fear stop them.
17. Wealthy people constantly learn and grow. Poor people think they already know.

I have to agree as well the mindset is a big part. I bought a course two years back called Millionaire MBA by a chap called Richard Parkes Cordock. He went and interviewed many of the UK's top entrepreneurs to discover what the mindset actually is. He produced a set of audio cd's/mp3's based around NLP (Neuro Linguistic Programming). I actually listen to them once every six months to try and keep myself in the right mindset.

Mindset is pretty much everything!

I sometimes suggest to clients that they think of their relationship with money like a relationship with a person. We can think all sorts of things about money - it causes wars, it's the root of all evil, it's never there for you, it never sticks around. What kind of relationship would you have with a person like that?!

So ask yourself, what sort of "person" do you think of money as? What's your relationship with that "person" like? What sort of person would "Money" think of you as?

And what sort of relationship would you LIKE to have with money?

It's exactly the same deal as when you're courting. If you're not convinced in your own abilities and exude confidence from every pore in your body she (or he) won't look at you as being a worthy mate either.

I have worked with several multi-millionaires over the years. They all had most of the 15 points Gordon has highlighted in his post.

However, and most people I have pointed this out to argue that I am talking BS. You can lead the life of a millionaire without having millions in the bank. It all comes down to what you want out of your life.

Just do not purchase really expensive assets, if you must have 3 houses and 4 £100k cars that your purchase then yes you do need a few £m in the bank. But if you do not need to show the trappings of wealth just ensure that you have a business model than ensures strong cashflow in all economic conditions. Make sure your earnings are in strong currency, buy services as much as you can in weak currency and be clever about how you purchase the things in life that you want.

Example
My passion is travel I travel 3 months of the year and that will increase to 6 once my kids leave school. I travel both on my own and with my family. On a recent family 3 week holiday to Morocco. It cost me around £1k in strong UK currency but delivered an experience that most people would spend £5k plus on

How ?
Cheap flights £400
Swapped my house with a family for their 50 meters from the coast villa that would cost about £3k to rent. No accommodation cost.
Swapped cars so no car hire cost
Hired local cook to prepare all our meals for 2.5 of the 3 weeks at a cost of 1 UK meal for a family going out for a meal in this country.
Used local contacts to purchase anything that was of reasonable value and hence paid local rates.

I could go on but the result was a 3 week break that most would think would cost a fortune and many pay a fortune for but cost less than what many blow in week in UK.

There are many , many ways that can let you lead the life you want without having millions in the bank

Who Wants to Be a Millionaire? is a television game show which offers very large cash prizes for correctly answering 15 (or in some countries, 12) consecutive multiple-choice questions of increasing difficulty. The format is owned and licensed by the Japanese production company Sony Pictures Television International.
